Tidewater Community College seeks an experienced Medical Coder/Auditor as an adjunct instructor to lead a Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) exam preparation course in the non-credit Workforce Solutions Department. This part-time position involves teaching courses in classroom, online, or remote via Zoom environments, providing students with hands-on instruction on auditing medical records, coding accuracy, healthcare regulations, documentation review, and revenue integrity.
Responsibilities include creating an engaging learning environment, aligning course activities with learning outcomes, delivering instruction and timely assessments, providing prompt feedback, and holding office hours. Classes may occur days, evenings, or weekends. Instructor must communicate effectively, use technology and learning management systems, and adapt teaching strategies to diverse student backgrounds.
Minimum qualifications include American Academy Professional Coders (AAPC) CPC Certification, strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT/HCPCS, documentation guidelines, payer requirements, and familiarity with CPMA exam content. A minimum of 5 years hands-on medical coding and auditing experience, college-level teaching experience, and proficiency with LMS such as CANVAS are required. Advanced degrees or related certifications are a plus.
