This is a remote Physician Specialty Coder position focused on coding expertise for designated inpatient or outpatient high dollar or specialty account types. The coder maintains high-quality ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and/or CPT coding for diagnoses and procedures through review of clinical documentation and diagnostic results, aiming for 95% accuracy or better.
The role involves abstracting data into electronic medical record systems, verifying patient dispositions and physician data, and following official coding guidelines. Collaboration with HIM and Clinical Documentation Specialists is key to support accurate billing and reduce denials. Reporting is to Regional Coding Manager and leadership team.
Responsibilities include:
- Assign ICD-10 and CPT codes based on official guidelines to generate MS/APR DRG
- Abstract required information from documentation
- Validate admit orders and discharge dispositions
- Manage coding queues and ensure timely finalization of accounts
- Meet or exceed 95% coding accuracy and productivity standards
- Maintain ethical coding standards per AHIMA
- Assist with error reduction initiatives
- Identify and report hospital-acquired conditions
- Query providers for incomplete or unclear documentation
- Participate in audit discussions
Candidates must have:
- High school diploma or equivalent experience
- Preferred: Accredited Baccalaureate Health Informatics or HIM program or AHIMA-approved Coding Certificate
- CPC certification or equivalent with at least two years of experience
- 1-3 years experience preferred
- Specialty experience in Cardiology, Pulmonology, General Surgery preferred
Work Schedule:
- Monday to Friday, 8AM-5PM CST
- 100% Remote (candidate must reside in TX, LA, AR, GA or NM)
