We are seeking a detail-oriented and energetic Outpatient Medical Coder specializing in Same Day Surgery and Profee Coders procedures to join our remote team. In this vital role, you will accurately review and assign medical codes to outpatient surgical encounters, ensuring precise documentation for billing, reimbursement, and statistical purposes. Your expertise will help streamline the coding process, support compliance with healthcare regulations, and contribute to the overall efficiency of our outpatient services. Responsibilities:
- Review outpatient surgical documentation, including operative reports, physician notes, and medical records to assign appropriate ICD-10 codes and CPT codes for procedures performed during same-day surgeries.
- Ensure proper assignment of DRG codes to facilitate accurate hospital reimbursement processes.
- Verify the accuracy of ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding systems, maintaining compliance with current coding standards.
- Utilize Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems effectively to document coding activities and ensure seamless data flow.
- Collaborate with medical billing teams to resolve coding discrepancies and support accurate claim submissions.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of medical terminology, medical records, and coding guidelines to ensure precise documentation.
- Stay updated on changes in healthcare regulations, coding updates, and industry best practices related to outpatient surgery coding.
Experience and Requirements:
- Proven experience in outpatient medical coding, particularly within same-day surgery or ambulatory surgical centers.
- Strong understanding of DRG, CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret medical records accurately and assign appropriate codes efficiently.
- Familiarity with medical billing processes and collections is preferred.
- Experience working with EMR/EHR systems in a fast-paced healthcare environment is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and medical records management is essential.
- Prior experience in a remote or telecommuting role is a plus.
- Credentialed by the AHIMA, RHIT, RHIA or CCS credentialed.
- 3-4 years of coding experience in an acute healthcare setting.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- 4 years of coding experience in an acute healthcare setting.
