Physician Coding Auditor

This full-time, remote Physician Coding Auditor role involves reviewing and accurately coding professional multi-specialty services including evaluation and management, diagnostics, surgeries, and procedures. The position requires compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party payer guidelines to ensure accurate reimbursement.

Key responsibilities include performing professional compliance audits, applying appropriate coding and documentation guidelines (ICD-10-CM, CPT, AHA Coding Clinics, AMA, CMS), evaluating physician documentation quality, adherence to coverage determinations, scoring audits, identifying risk areas, preparing detailed findings and client education materials, and staying current on coding guidelines.

Candidates should have recent auditing and education multi-specialty experience, client-facing exposure, presentation skills, and ideally expert Epic proficiency.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • High School diploma required; Associate or BS degree preferred.
  • Completion of AHIMA or AAPC certified program with relevant credentials (CCS-P, CPC) active and in good standing.
  • Mandatory AAPC CPMA credential; preferably possess two or more credentials.
  • Minimum 5 years recent physician coding experience and 3 years recent physician auditing experience.
  • Subject matter expert knowledge on Evaluation & Management and Surgical coding.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, CPT coding & guidelines, ICD-10-CM coding & guidelines, and related Medicare/Medicaid policies.
  • Strong independent work capabilities, time management, research, organizational skills, multitasking ability, and deadline adherence.
  • Experience creating/implementing audit plans and educating providers individually or in groups.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows, healthcare information, and billing systems.
  • Preferred experience with Google Workspace, remote work, multiple EMRs, and specialties such as Ophthalmology, Behavioral Health, Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic Surgery, Complex ENT/Dental, Plastic Surgery, Orthopedics, NICU/PICU, FQHC/RHC.
