Non-Certified Medical Coder

The Non-Certified Coder facilitates billing of services by performing CPT and ICD-10 coding and investigating charges for low complexity encounters. Responsibilities include basic coding tasks, work queue review, charge reconciliation, resolving basic claim edits, and supporting quality improvement initiatives in compliance with clinic policies. The role requires maintaining productivity and accuracy benchmarks, participating in ongoing coding education, and ensuring protection of patient health information per clinic privacy policies.

Key duties involve assigning ICD-10 and CPT codes, verifying procedures, completing electronic health record work queues, escalating documentation issues, and assisting in improving clinical outcomes. The position emphasizes confidentiality, analytical skills, independence, and proficiency with MS Office and EHR systems.

This full-time position typically requires Monday through Friday work hours with some flexibility and occasional irregular hours to meet client needs. Occasional driving may be necessary.

Preferred qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, education in medical terminology, and at least one year of ICD-10 and CPT coding experience. The candidate must be willing to obtain certification through AAPC or AMIMA within 24 months and demonstrate proficiency in 10-key data entry testing.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year coding experience (ICD-10 and CPT) preferred
  • Willingness to obtain certification through AAPC or AMIMA within 24 months of hire
  • Ability to complete 10-key testing with minimum of 8000 keys per hour and 95% accuracy
  • Basic understanding of medical, anatomy, and physiology terminology
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication with healthcare professionals and staff
  • Proficiency in MS Office products and EHR systems
  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
