The Medical Coder role is part of the healthcare consulting practice and is fully remote within the US, with occasional client site visits for onboarding and training.
Responsibilities include accurately assigning ICD-10 CM, E/M, ICD-10 PCS, CPT, HCPCS codes with modifiers and units based on documentation; adhering to multi-specialty medical coding standards for outpatient, emergency room, surgery, inpatient, and professional rounds; processing encounters within SLA and escalating deficiencies; reviewing and responding to audits; completing required government system training; meeting productivity and quality targets; and collaborating with team members and management.
- High School Diploma or higher.
- Active professional coding certification credentials from AHIMA or AAPC (CCS, CCS-P, CPC, RHIA, or RHIT) with proof of certification and ICD-10 certification.
- 3+ years experience with DoD medical coding, re-coding, abstraction, analysis, and medical record assembly.
- Minimum accuracy rating of 97%.
- US Citizenship and ability to secure DoD security clearance; no unfavorable government employment removals.
- Up-to-date on training and certification requirements.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows and Office 365 applications.
- Ability to maintain privacy and HIPAA compliance when working remotely.
- Experience with DoD systems such as MHS Genesis, EM360, or JLV preferred.
- Experience in multiple medical specialties preferred, including behavioral health, cardiology, ER, oncology, internal medicine, nephrology, neurology, OB/Gyn surgery, and others.
