Job Purpose: Correctly code healthcare claims to obtain reimbursement from insurance companies and government healthcare programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain knowledge of regulations, guidelines, policies, and procedures for insurance companies and multi-state billing of physician and mid-level CPT codes.
- Maintain knowledge of hospital systems to gather patient information.
- Analyze patient charts to assign specific ICD-10 codes.
- Use CPT codes to code surgeries.
- Enter outpatient/inpatient charges into the system.
- Research coding-related issues.
- Comply with safety policies, reporting unsafe activities.
- Participate in team efforts to achieve goals.
- Provide leadership by example and sharing knowledge.
- Participate in education sessions locally or remotely.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Comply fully with healthcare laws and regulations including HIPAA, OSHA, OIG, and federal, state, local laws.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Prefer certification from college or technical school.
- 1 to 3 years related experience/training, including CPT & ICD coding; surgery coding experience preferred.
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required.
