Rio Grande Urology

Rio Grande Urology is seeking a Certified Medical Coder to join our team!

Responsible for accurately linking ICD-10 and CPT codes to daily charges ensuring all charges are accounted for and entered in a timely manner and maximization of reimbursement for medical procedures and services. Monitors physician and physician extender coding practices. Participates in reviewing and updating codes on a regular basis. Coordinates insurance denials to aid in the appeal process. Remains up-to-date and knowledgeable of coding and diagnostic procedures and remains current on federal legislative changes.

Coordinates with clinical staff to get charge information for all patients. Codes information about procedures performed and diagnosis on charge. Verifies and completes charge information in database, and produces billing. Processes and distributes copies of billings according to policy and procedures. Maintains required billing records, reports, files, etc. Reviews hospital documentation, codes and enters billing information in the system. Obtains pertinent patient demographic and insurance information from the hospital, and enters it in computer for billing purposes. Codes and enters surgeries in computer system. Complies with HIPAA to protect patient confidentiality. Projects a professional demeanor and is courteous with patients, physicians, and health insurance representatives, and maintains a good working relationship with hospitals.

Requirements & Qualifications

Professional coding certification required (AHIMA or AAPC). Minimum 1 year of medical coding experience. Strong working knowledge and experience with EMR and practice management systems. Previous private physician practice experience preferred. Strong work ethic, focused, detail-oriented and the ability to be a contributing team member. Associate degree preferred. Must be able to work in El Paso, TX, and relocate if necessary.
