Performs intermediate skilled administrative support work processing ambulance information, generating various reports, and issuing permits.
Daily duties include keying and coding ambulance transports with the correct ICD-10 diagnosis codes and CPT codes required for payment by importing run reports from ESO into the software system.
Verifies insurance sources for billing and communicates with Cleveland County and surrounding Hospices for correct payer source.
Coordinates with hospitals and nursing facilities to ensure proper paperwork flow and communication.
Files all insurances daily including Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance.
Attends billing conferences to stay up to date with billing procedures and laws governing Medicare/Medicaid/Insurance.
Ensures all required forms are attached to records prior to billing claims.
Additional assigned tasks may be required to meet department and county needs.
Work is on-site in the office; remote or hybrid work is not available for this position.
High school diploma or GED and 2 years of experience working with medical terminology, emergency medical services coding, or billing services.
Certified ambulance coder certification preferred but not required.
Knowledge of compliance for Medicare/Insurance and Medicaid billing.
Familiarity with modern office practices, forms, and machines used in record and bill preparation.
Knowledge of North Carolina and County laws and policies related to billing and collecting.
Skilled in computer-based word processing, spreadsheet, and file maintenance programs.
Ability to prepare records and reports related to bill collection.
Strong numerical computation skills and effective oral and written communication.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships and handle stressful situations professionally.
Physical ability to operate office equipment and perform light physical tasks.
