Carolina NeuroSurgery & Spine Associates (CNSA) is a well-established and highly respected neurosurgical private practice recognized for excellence in brain and spine care. This manager role focuses on leading coding operations to maximize practice revenue through accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. The Coding Manager oversees daily workflows, ensures timely and precise coding of surgical encounters, develops SOPs, conducts quality audits, reduces coding denials, manages staff hiring and training (both remote and onsite), and collaborates with leadership to optimize coding processes and financial performance.

Candidates should have strong leadership skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to work closely with physicians and management. The role requires over 5 years of medical coding experience specifically in surgical/procedural coding with mastery of CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS guidelines, and experience in office, hospital, and ASC environments. CPC certification and knowledge of E/M, LCD, and NCD coding are required, with a preference for candidates with orthopedic or neurosurgical coding experience. A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required. Master's degree and MSO experience are preferred.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • 5+ years medical coding experience with surgical/procedural coding exposure
  • Mastery of CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and official coding guidelines
  • Strong understanding of global surgical packages, NCCI edits, and modifier usage (e.g., 22, 24, 25, 57, 58, 59, 78, 79)
  • Ability to interpret operative reports, imaging, implants, DME, and complex procedures
  • Knowledge of payer-specific coding policies including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial plans
  • Experience in office, hospital, and ASC surgical settings
  • CPC Certification required
  • E/M coding, LCD coding, and NCD coding knowledge required
  • Orthopedic or neurosurgical coding experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
  • Master's degree and MSO experience preferred
