We are currently seeking a HIM Coder at our Kalamazoo, Michigan location. Join a dedicated team providing exceptional care where patients are the number one priority.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coding inpatient medical records using ICD-10-CM
  • Grouping for MS-DRG assignment and optimization following coding guidelines
  • Assembling and analyzing medical records for quantitative deficiencies
  • Maintaining master index and logs
  • Assisting with Clinical Documentation Improvement, including provider queries
  • Performing Quality Assurance chart analysis
  • Assisting HIM Department responsibilities and other units as assigned
  • Maintaining professionalism and confidentiality with health information
  • Complying with federal, state laws, and hospital policies regarding health information and ethics

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in Health Information Management, Medical Coding, or related preferred
  • Current AHIMA or AAPC credential required
  • Minimum 1 year coding experience in acute care hospital required
  • Knowledge of ICD-10, DRG optimization, and clinical data abstraction required
  • Completion of annual coding training required

Requirements & Qualifications
