Horizon Health

Horizon Health is a Critical Access, Rural Health Facility with 25 inpatient beds in Paris, IL, and multiple outpatient clinics including Family Practice and Specialty Clinics in Paris and nearby areas. Serving Edgar County residents since 1968, Horizon Health offers community education, emergency services, and outpatient care, expanding as the community grows.

This position codes and/or bills patients' medical records using healthcare coding systems to assign codes to patient accounts according to policy and procedures. Duties include electronic health record data entry, assigning accurate Evaluation and Management codes per CPT/AMA guidelines, communicating with physicians to clarify diagnoses, staying current on coding changes and regulations including Medicare and Medicaid, and maintaining confidentiality under HIPAA.

Other duties include reviewing uncoded patient encounters to facilitate billing release and cross-training for clinic coverage.

Candidates must hold RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or CCS-physician base certification. Previous coding experience and advanced medical terminology knowledge are required, with preferred CMS coding experience. Working knowledge of disease processes, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology is required.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week.

Pay Range: $21.35 to $34.16 per hour, based on experience.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Coding Specialist-physician base (CCS-P) required.
  • Previous coding experience required.
  • Knowledge of CMS coding preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Working knowledge of disease processes, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
