The Outpatient Hospital Coder is responsible for the timely and accurate collection of ICD-10 diagnosis, HCPCS codes, and CPT procedural codes from various hospital outpatient cases such as clinics, emergency department, surgical cases, observation, infusion, imaging, and professional billing. Duties include supporting revenue integrity through review of posted charges for accuracy, using hospital encoding systems and resources effectively, resolving coding validation and claim edits in compliance with regulatory processes, reviewing coding edits, and assigning modifiers based on billing regulations. Other duties as assigned.
- Associate degree or two years of college coursework in Health Information Management or equivalent work experience (2 years professional or outpatient facility coding), OR
- Seattle Children’s Apprentice Hospital Coder for no less than 12 months
- Credentials: AHIMA RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or CCS-P OR AAPC CPC, COC, CRC, CPMA
- Preferred: Experience in a pediatric acute care setting
