This is an on-site position, NOT remote.

The role reviews, analyzes, and codes diagnostic and procedural information that determines Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance payments. The position ensures compliance with established coding guidelines, reimbursement policies, and accreditation standards.

Key responsibilities include abstracting and sequencing medical data, assigning accurate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes, validating diagnoses and treatments, performing quantitative and documentation consistency analysis, evaluating ER&M coding accuracy, entering data into electronic health records and billing systems, conducting chart audits, educating providers on documentation, querying providers for clarification, attending mandatory trainings, and participating in quality assurance activities.

This role requires adherence to Seneca Nation policies and maintaining confidentiality of patient information.

Requirements & Qualifications

Candidates must have an Associate's Degree in Health Information Technology or Medical Coding. At least two years of experience using ICD-10, HCPCS, and CPT coding is required. Must possess and maintain current CPC, COC, CCS, CCS-P, CCA, RHIA, or RHIT certification. Valid New York State driver's license is required. Experience in a large hospital, academic medical center, outpatient healthcare setting, or Indian Health Service/tribal health preferred. Proficiency with coding conventions, medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology. Familiarity with electronic health record systems and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to prioritize tasks, maintain confidentiality, and respect cultural diversity.
