Join Banner Health as a highly trained Certified Medical Coder with expertise in neurology and complex neurosurgery codes. This fully remote role involves evaluating medical records and providing clinical and surgical abstraction for complex surgical, procedural, and evaluation & management professional services, abiding by national coding guidelines. You will accurately assign ICD and CPT codes, address coding edits, abstract clinical diagnoses, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Work independently with strong attention to detail while utilizing coding software and electronic medical records in a flexible, supportive environment.

Primary responsibilities include:
- Accurately coding diagnostic and procedural information for neurology/neurosurgery cases per national guidelines.
- Consulting providers to clarify missing data.
- Ensuring coding compliance with CMS, Medicaid, OIG, and other regulations.
- Abstracting pertinent clinical information into medical records.
- Identifying and resolving coding validation edits.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3+ years experience in complex professional neurology/profee coding; neurosurgery specialty preferred.
- Current certification from AAPC or AHIMA (CPC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, or RHIT) - complex coding level required.
- High School diploma/GED or equivalent; Associate’s degree in related healthcare field preferred.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote environment using coding and office software.
This position is full-time with flexible scheduling after training (8am-5pm standard, 5am-7pm flexible). Eligible only in select U.S. states as listed.
Banner Health is committed to pay equity, offering an hourly wage between $25.54 - $38.30 (salary converted to hourly rate).
- At least 3 years recent and consistent experience in Neurology Profee Evaluation and Management coding, with preference for Neurosurgery specialty experience.
- Current certification through AAPC or AHIMA at or above CPC-A level for complex coding roles.
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent; Associate’s degree in a related health care field preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of ICD and CPT coding principles per AHIMA coding competencies.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment using coding software and abstracting systems.
- Strong attention to detail with ability to identify and correct complex diagnoses and procedure codes.
- Preferred: Specialty certification such as Radiology Certified Coder (RCC) and experience in large multi-system physician practices.
