Work location: Remote Work hours: Monday – Friday generally between 7:00 am – 6:00 pm

Education:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required
• Associate's Degree in related field preferred

Experience:

• 2 years professional coding experience
• Completion of advanced level training in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, or similar required

Licenses and Certifications:

• CPC - Certified Professional Coder or
• CCS-P - Certified Coding Specialist - Physician-based upon hire required
• Other specialty certification such as CGSC, COSC, CCC, preferred

Required Skills:

• Advanced knowledge of procedural and clinical diagnosis coding for professional billing
• Knowledge of third-party regulations and payer billing requirements
• Effective communication skills
• Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
• Strong work ethic and professionalism
• Proficient computer skills and ability to learn internal applications

Responsibilities:

• Accurately abstract information from medical records and assign professional fee codes using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS in compliance with guidelines
• Review supporting medical records to ensure accurate code assignment and maintain documentation
• Perform charge reconciliation and identify discrepancies with facility charges
• Collaborate with practice staff and providers to complete coding and correct charges
• Participate in special projects including charge correction requests, payor policy research, accounts receivable and denials management
