As a Specialized Coder, you will use your expert knowledge in physician coding for Cardiology, Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery, or Vascular Surgery to review physician charges, accurately code encounters, correct coding edits, research denied claims, and mentor/train other coders. You will also support provider education and contribute to improving coding accuracy and compliance.
This is a remote position with possible travel to client or corporate sites as needed.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coding claims directly from medical records and operative reports according to guidelines
- Completing assigned work queues accurately and timely
- Tracking coding trends and assisting leadership with resolution and education
- Maintaining compliance with corporate policies and quality standards
- Providing and assisting with provider education and development of educational tools
- Participating in educational meetings and staying current with coding updates
- Mentoring team members and supporting coding leadership
- Embracing innovation including AI tools to improve processes and patient experience
- Minimum 3 years coding experience with extensive knowledge in physician coding specializing in Cardiology, Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery, or Vascular Surgery
- Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding
- Experience using EPIC and coding software tools
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Strong organizational, communication, time management, problem-solving, and multitasking skills
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) preferred, or CCS, RHIA, or RHIT certifications required and must be kept current
- High School Diploma or GED minimum education
- Willingness to travel as needed
