The Dayton Ohio VA Medical Center's Health Information Management Service is recruiting a well-qualified Medical Records Technician - Coder Auditor.
Responsibilities include reviewing, analyzing, and reporting performance monitors for various medical coding systems including ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, MS-DRG, CPT, and HCPCS for both inpatient and outpatient records. The role involves auditing coded data for accuracy and completeness, providing coding guidance and training, collaborating with coding and clinical staff, ensuring compliance with coding rules and regulations, and maintaining statistical databases for coding practices.
Work schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Qualifications include knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and medical coding. Candidates should have either one year relevant experience, an associate degree related to health information management, completion of an AHIMA coding program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification through AHIMA or AAPC at apprentice/associate or mastery level is required.
The full performance level is GS-8 to GS-9 with mastery level certification and demonstrated advanced coding knowledge and skills.

Basic one-year experience demonstrating knowledge in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, medical coding, and health record structures, OR an associate degree in health information technology/management, OR completion of an AHIMA approved coding program.
Certification required: Apprentice/Associate or Mastery Level Certification through AHIMA or AAPC, or Clinical Documentation Improvement Certification.
Demonstrated knowledge of ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems, research and problem-solving skills for complex coding issues, ability to review coded data for compliance, and strong interpersonal skills.
Must maintain certifications through continuing education.
