Facility, Inpatient and Outpatient Coding Technician

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is seeking an experienced Medical Coder to join their Coding and Clinical Documentation Integrity Department. This fully remote role involves assigning ICD-10-CM/PCS and/or CPT codes to inpatient and outpatient discharged patient charts, ensuring accuracy and high-quality coded data organization-wide.

Key responsibilities include reviewing medical records for principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures, maintaining a minimum 95% accuracy rate, coding charts within three days of availability 98% of the time, creating physician queries, and actively participating in the physician query program. The role requires thorough knowledge of coding guidelines, including compliance with national Correct Coding Initiatives and familiarity with the AHA Coding Clinic.

The position uses Epic EHR, HDM/3M coding systems, and requires collaboration with other coders to resolve challenging cases. Productivity expectations are 2.5 inpatient charts per hour and 6 outpatient/same-day surgery charts per hour.

This Monday through Friday position offers flexible start times from 5:00 AM EST after the introductory period. The position is open to candidates in eligible U.S. states, excluding Washington, Wyoming, North Dakota, California (for hourly roles), U.S. Territories, and outside the United States.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree (required), Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • At least two (2) years acute care inpatient and outpatient coding experience
  • Active certification: RHIA, RHIT, or CCS from American Health Information Management Association
  • Skills in Epic, HDM/3M Encoder, Microsoft applications
  • Commitment to accuracy and productivity standards
  • Must maintain 95%+ coding accuracy and meet chart productivity requirements
