Coding Specialist III - Plastics/Podiatric Surgery

MedStar Health is seeking a Coding Specialist III with 5-7 years of medical-professional coding experience and CPC certification, focusing on Plastics/Podiatric Surgery coding.

This role ensures accurate and complete coding of medical-professional services based on thorough knowledge of regulatory and payer requirements. The specialist will recommend policy and procedural changes to optimize reimbursement, interact with physicians on coding issues, maintain compliance within billing systems, and mentor junior coding staff.

Responsibilities include abstracting accurate diagnosis and procedure data, creating training materials, assisting clinicians to improve documentation compliance, maintaining billing and coding dictionaries, meeting quality and productivity standards, resolving documentation conflicts, managing complex coding cases across multiple specialties, identifying trends and issues, maintaining certifications, and guiding others on complex coding and appeals.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 5-7 years of medical-professional coding experience, with leadership experience for 2 years.
  • CPC (Certified Professional Coder) certification required.
  • Knowledge of payer policies, CMS, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and mentor others.

This position offers fully remote work.

Note: Salary is provided as an hourly range $28.76 - $47.05; annual salary range not specified.
