This full-time position (40 hours/week, Monday-Friday) includes the flexibility to telecommute anywhere within the U.S. Occasional overtime may be required.
Primary duties include:
- Assigning CPT, ICD-10 Codes, and Modifiers for E/M services across specialties such as Emergency Department, Hospitalists, and Primary Care
- Applying expert knowledge in ProFee coding specialties, including Evaluation & Management, Critical Care, and Trauma, adhering to official and client coding guidelines
- Analyzing and correcting CCI Edits and Medical Necessity Edits
- Abstracting additional data during chart review as needed
- Following ethical coding standards established by AAPC and/or AHIMA
- Maintaining coding quality and productivity standards set by Optum
- Providing documentation feedback and querying physicians when appropriate
- Staying current with coding knowledge through manager-led education
- Participating in departmental meetings and educational events
- Recording charts coded, held, or missing
Required qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Professional coder certification from AHIMA and/or AAPC (e.g., CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC-H/COC, CIC, CCS-P, CPC) with annual maintenance
- Minimum 3 years of experience with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS
- Proficient with Windows PC, Microsoft Excel, and various EMR systems
- Flexibility to support multiple clients as needed
Preferred qualifications:
- 3+ years of outpatient Professional Fee E/M coding experience
- Willingness to work some weekends, holidays, and overtime as business needs dictate
Telecommuting requires a dedicated, private work area and secure handling of sensitive documents, plus a high-speed internet connection approved by UnitedHealth Group.
The hourly pay ranges from $20.38 to $36.44 based on factors such as location, education, experience, and certifications. Benefits include comprehensive packages, incentive programs, equity stock purchase, and 401k contributions, subject to eligibility.
