The Coder III uses independent judgment to review medical records documentation to abstract demographic data and assign diagnoses, procedures, and modifiers for statistical classification and reimbursement purposes. Utilizes software applications and electronic coding references to perform coding related tasks.
At Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, you will select appropriate assignments for coding/abstracting from work queues and use the 3M Encoder along with other software to accurately code diagnoses and procedures for patient encounters. You will meet accuracy and productivity goals, submit physician queries as appropriate, communicate documentation improvement feedback, educate coders on querying, research coding questions and compliance updates, and maintain productivity through time tracking software.
Required certifications include any of the following: CCA, CCS, RHIA, RHIT (AHIMA), CPC, COC, CIC (AAPC), or ROCC (AMAC) for Radiation Oncology. Candidates should have five or more years of medical coding experience in hospital inpatient or multi-specialty clinics and pass a proficiency test.
Preferred skills include advanced anatomy and medical terminology knowledge, coding guidelines, billing and reimbursement, ability to interact with physicians, leadership and team-building skills, and knowledge of APCs, DRGs, and multispecialty coding.
