Coding Specialist

This is an in-person position near hospitals in Lexington, TN; Erin, TN; Brownsville, TN; Linden, TN; and Stuart, VA.

The role involves ambulance coding and billing duties, including preparation of ambulance billing and interacting with insurance companies, with guidance and opportunities for career development.

Candidates should have at least a high school diploma; coding experience is desirable but not required. Must be proficient in computer skills including Excel, Word, and Outlook, and hold a CAC certification.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with Instamed, CPSI, Inovalon, and ESO systems
  • Correctly applying documentation requirements to code patient care reports
  • Assigning appropriate ICD-10 codes and ambulance levels based on patient care and CAD reports
  • Assigning charges supported by reports
  • Reviewing medical necessity for ambulance transports
  • Following up on unpaid and denied insurance claims

Requirements include knowledge of medical terminology, electronic clearinghouse procedures, ICD-10 and ambulance billing, confidentiality, and good communication and organizational skills.

The position requires the ability to see (corrective eyewear allowed), hear (hearing assistance allowed), and perform physical duties such as standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, and crouching, with a low physical demand rating.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Minimum of High School Diploma
  • CAC certification
  • Desirable: at least one year coding experience (not required)
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Knowledge of computer applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and electronic clearinghouse procedures
  • Proficient use of ICD-10 and ambulance billing
  • Strong confidentiality practices
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Physical ability to perform job functions including vision and hearing (with corrective devices as needed)
