Certified Medical Coder

As a Certified Medical Coder, you will be responsible for timely and accurate coding and filing of claims to minimize claim rejections and denials.

You will review medical records, provider notes, dictations, and other documentation, verifying codes selected by providers and correcting them as necessary according to coding guidelines. Utilize ICD-9/ICD-10 to code diagnoses and identify principal and significant secondary diagnoses. Use CPT/HPCS to assign and sequence all codes for services rendered.

Provide education to providers and clinical assistants related to proper coding encounters (CPT, ICD-10, HCC) and compliance with medical record documentation.

Responsibilities include reviewing all FFS and UHC Medicare Advantage notes from prior day encounters, ensuring diagnosis codes are specific and accurate, resolving coding issues within workflow dashboards, collaborating with providers to obtain necessary information, auditing medical assistant patients' charts for HCC diagnoses, and conducting chart audits and coding reviews to ensure accuracy and compliance.

This role supports proactive, preventive care to seniors by ensuring accurate medical coding practices within a compassionate, personalized healthcare model.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Coding Associate (CCA) credential
  • Minimum 2 years of medical coding experience
  • Experience interpreting both electronic and paper medical records
  • Experience interacting with physicians regarding coding requirements
