Summary: Accurately and independently makes decisions based on specialized knowledge and standard protocol. This includes, but is not limited to coding inpatient and outpatient. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values, and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology
- 2 years inpatient/outpatient coding experience
- Windows applications proficiency
- Cooperates well with others
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Proficient computer use and software applications
- Ability to apply local, state, and federal guidelines with attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications:
- RHIA, RHIT, and/or CCS Certification
- Experience in inpatient/outpatient medical record coding
Physical Demands:
- Ability to move about the medical center during shifts
- Ability to transport charts, papers, records, and items throughout the center
- Ability to concentrate on tasks in an open, distracting environment
Responsibilities:
- Distribute and monitor workflow daily
- Assist coders and problem solve
- Train new coders on Rush processes and procedures
- Work closely with auditors
- Assign ICD-10-CM/CPT-4 diagnostic and procedure codes to patient charts with accuracy
- Abstract selected data items and enter into 3M encoder/Epic software accurately
- Maintain a log of work performed
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
