Certified Medical Coder/Biller

The Medical Coder/Biller inputs appropriate codes for various medical services to ensure healthcare practitioners and providers receive payment for services rendered.

Responsibilities include:

  • Receiving hospital information to properly bill provider services for hospital patients.
  • Assigning correct ICD-9-CM / ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes.
  • Applying appropriate ICD-9, CPT, HCPCS codes, and modifiers for physician services.
  • Auditing medical records for proper coding and regulatory compliance.
  • Reviewing, abstracting, and coding clinical data such as diseases, operations, procedures, and therapies within established time frames.
  • Ensuring compliance with federal and state coding guidelines.
  • Identifying and addressing documentation deficiencies with supervisors and clinicians.
  • Querying physicians when documentation is unclear or ambiguous.
  • Providing ongoing education and training to physicians and departments on coding, billing, and documentation.
  • Maintaining knowledge of insurance, authorization, and 'incident to' rules.
  • Collaborating with billing to reduce contract errors and resolve coding guideline issues.
  • Contacting providers to update and train on correct coding.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of ICD-9, CPT, HCPCS, and modifier coding.
  • Ability to maintain and apply diagnostic and procedure codes.
  • AAPC Coder certification preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to interpret procedural manuals and instructions with basic problem-solving skills.

Certified Medical Coding Certification is required.

Work Location: In person in Wichita, KS 67226.

  • Extensive knowledge of ICD-9, CPT, HCPCS, and modifiers.
  • AAPC Coder certification preferred.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret procedures and job instructions.
  • Basic problem-solving skills.
