The Medical Coder reviews medical documentation and assigns accurate diagnostic and procedural codes using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems to ensure correct billing and compliance with healthcare regulations. This role supports the revenue cycle and minimizes claim denials by working closely with healthcare providers and billing staff to maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date patient records.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze medical records to identify pertinent diagnoses and procedures for accurate coding and reporting.
  • Assign accurate medical codes using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
  • Ensure coding meets regulatory and payer requirements.
  • Clarify ambiguous and incomplete documentation with providers to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Monitor coding worklists such as claims, denials, account checks, and tasks, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Process and transmit coded medical records timely for billing and reimbursement.
  • Participate in internal and external audits to support coding quality.
  • Stay updated on coding standards, payer policies, and documentation best practices to ensure compliance and accuracy.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Completion of a certified medical coding program.
  • AHIMA or AAPC certification.
  • Proficiency in English (speaking, reading, writing) to ensure safe and effective communication.
  • Preferred: 6 months of medical coding experience in a clinic or hospital setting.
