Facility Rehab Coder / HIM Coder

This role involves coding and abstracting inpatient and outpatient medical records according to ICD-10-CM and CPT guidelines and PAM Health procedures. Coders will accurately reflect the reason for admission, care received, and severity of illness. Familiarity with 3M coding application and IRF-PAI is preferred.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent; coding, medical terminology, anatomy/physiology courses preferred. Preferred certifications: CCS, CCS-P, CPC, CPC-A, CBCS, CCA (required), RHIT, RHIA, RN or LPN with ICD-9-CM coding background. At least two years coding experience is preferred. Knowledge of ICD-10-CM/CPT, medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and lab terminology required. Understanding of HIPAA regulations and ability to communicate effectively with staff, physicians, and public is necessary.

Must be detail-oriented, able to work independently, follow directions, and be familiar with TJC and state regulations concerning medical records and compliance.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Coding, medical terminology, anatomy/physiology preferred.
  • Certification preferred: CCS, CCS-P, CPC, CPC-A, CBCS; CCA required.
  • Registered Health Information Technician/Administrator or Nursing background with ICD-9-CM coding is a plus.
  • Minimum 2 years coding experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding rules.
  • Familiarity with 3M coding software and IRF-PAI preferred.
  • Accurate data entry and computer skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Understanding of HIPAA and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain accuracy.
