Medical Billing & Coding Specialist – Inpatient Physician Coding
Hospital-Based | Inpatient Schedule: 4/10s (Four 10-hour shifts) Pay Rate: $18.54/hour Work Type: High-volume production environment
Job Summary: We are hiring an experienced Medical Billing & Coding Specialist to support hospital-based inpatient physicians. This role focuses on professional (physician) diagnosis coding for inpatient encounters. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, well-versed in ICD-10-CM, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume coding environment while maintaining quality and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review inpatient medical records and physician documentation
- Accurately assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes for inpatient professional (physician) services
- Ensure coding accuracy, completeness, and compliance with current guidelines and payer policies
- Meet productivity and quality standards in a high-volume environment
- Collaborate with billing, clinical, and revenue cycle teams to resolve coding or documentation issues
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality at all times
Required Qualifications:
- Experience in medical billing and coding, with a focus on inpatient physician (pro-fee) coding
- Strong working knowledge of ICD-10-CM diagnosis coding
- Ability to review and analyze inpatient medical records
- Experience working in a high-volume coding environment
- Solid understanding of hospital workflows and physician billing practices
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience coding for hospital-based physicians
- Familiarity with EHR systems
- Coding certification (CPC, CCS, or equivalent) preferred but may be considered based on experience
