BayCare is seeking an Advanced Inpatient Coding Specialist to join their team in a PRN remote position. This role requires a passion for outstanding customer service and offers the opportunity to work with one of the largest employers in the Tampa Bay area.
This position supports multiple inpatient service lines including Orthopedics, Neurology, Cardiac, General Surgery, Trauma Level II, and high acuity cases.
Key responsibilities include analyzing complex inpatient documentation, assigning diagnosis and procedural codes using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS systems, collaborating with medical staff for accurate coding, formulating physician queries, monitoring bill hold reports, and serving as liaison to Clinical Documentation Specialist and Quality Departments. The role involves mentoring and training junior coding team members and clinical students.
Candidates must have strong knowledge of anatomy, pathophysiology, and pharmacology for precise code assignments.
- Minimum of 3 years inpatient coding experience
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification required
- Preferred: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in Health Information Technology preferred
- At least 5 years of acute care experience
- Must reside in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, or South Carolina for remote work
