The Trainer-Coding and Quality Assurance performs regularly scheduled audits on coded accounts or on high risk areas to determine accuracy of code assignments. Collaborates with patient business office and ancillary departments to ensure accurate reporting of codes. Conducts training and in-servicing for new employees and other personnel needing additional training related to code assignment. Performs additional duties as needed.
Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management preferred. Minimum of three years experience coding in an acute care facility required.
Extensive knowledge of ICD and CPT coding systems required. Knowledge in at least five coding categories including Inpatient Medicare and Non-Medicare, Outpatient Radiology (including Interventional), Outpatient Satellite/Clinics, Outpatient Diagnostic, Outpatient Surgery, Emergency Department, observation, recurring, and Inpatient Surgery. Proficient in medical terminology and encoding systems. Skilled in computer applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint. Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written. Capable of working independently and under pressure with strong organizational skills.
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification required.
