BayCare is seeking an Advanced Inpatient Coding Specialist passionate about providing outstanding customer service to the community. This is a full-time remote role (must reside in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, or South Carolina) working Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
The Medical Records Advanced Inpatient Coding Specialist analyzes complex inpatient encounter documentation to assign integrated diagnosis and procedural codes using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS. The specialist collaborates with medical staff for accurate coding of diagnoses such as malnutrition and sepsis, formulates physician queries, monitors bill hold reports, and liaises with the Clinical Documentation Specialist Team and Quality Department for precise code and MSDRG assignments, as well as PSI/HAC reviews. Strong knowledge of anatomy, pathophysiology, and pharmacology is essential for accurate code assignment. Responsibilities also include mentoring and training coder team members and clinical practice students.
- Must have Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification (required).
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in Health Information Technology preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in Acute Care.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in Inpatient Coding.
