This position performs advanced medical coding functions by reviewing short-stay focused encounters and assigning accurate diagnosis and procedural codes using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 systems. The role involves collaboration to resolve documentation gaps and monitor bill hold reports, requiring strong knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy. The coder also mentors and trains junior coders and clinical students, contributing to the integrity of medical records.
The position is part-time, remote, with shifts from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, occasional weekends, and no on-call duty.
- Minimum 5 years of outpatient coding experience
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in Health Information Management preferred
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credential required; Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems
- Ability to mentor and train junior coders and clinical students
- Excellent understanding of medical terminology and anatomy
