Candidates should have at least three years of acute care, home health, physician or ancillary coding experience, a credentialed coding certificate with credentials such as CCS, CCS-P, CPC, or HCS-D, and strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, clinical documentation improvement, and coding technology. The role requires excellent organizational skills, professional communication, and a commitment to productivity and coding accuracy.
Responsibilities include assigning correct codes following coding guidelines, abstracting medical information, reviewing clinical documentation, working with medical staff to clarify documentation, maintaining a coding accuracy rate of 95%, adhering to ethical coding standards, and participating in continuing education.

- High School diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum three years coding experience (acute care, home health, physician, or ancillary)
- Credentialed coding certificate and credentials (CCS, CCS-P, CPC, or HCS-D)
- Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, official coding guidelines, medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology
