The Pro Fee Coding Specialist reviews documentation and verifies, adds, or corrects diagnosis and procedure codes submitted by providers, using knowledge from valid coding resources.
Candidates must have a GED or High School diploma. Relevant certifications include CCS (Certified Coding Specialist - AHIMA), CPC (Certified Professional Coder - AAPC), BCHH-C (Board Certified Home Health Coding Credentialing - WellSky), RHIA or RHIT (Registered Health Information Administrator/Technician - AHIMA), or HCCS (Hierarchical Conditions Categories - CCB). Certification must be obtained within one year if not currently held.
Preferred experience includes 2 years in a related role and knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and disease processes to understand etiology, pathology, symptoms, diagnostic studies, treatments, and prognosis.
Key skills include strong understanding of medical records, basic encoder skills, proficiency with Microsoft 365, excellent communication skills, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Code medical records as assigned
- Apply current coding and billing requirements to ensure correct claim submissions
- Monitor coding and billing performance and resolve denials
- Review and correct charges and rebilling
- Develop preventive measures against denials based on claim data analysis
- Advise and educate providers and office staff on documentation and billing compliance
- Collaborate with providers, billing, quality, and compliance departments
- Stay updated on coding standards through continuous education
Works directly with patients, providers, and internal/external customers.
Located at the Yale Campus in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
