Washington University in St Louis is seeking a Certified Coder to perform advanced coding and appeal activities, investigate payer issues, and handle charge corrections. Responsibilities include appealing denied claims, creating letters and documentation for appeals, collaborating with coding staff and physicians, researching payer policies, reviewing clinical documentation for accurate coding, ensuring proper use of ICD and CPT codes, working with Epic billing system and related tasks, and performing accounts receivable functions.

Work environment is primarily office-based with one day per month in-office requirement. This role involves sitting at a desk and using office equipment.

Candidates must hold one of several recognized coding credentials such as CCA, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, CPC-A, CPC-H, or RHIA/RHIT certifications. Previous coding experience or equivalent associate degree is preferred. Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT coding, medical billing and terminology, and computer systems is recommended.

Requirements & Qualifications

Must hold a professional coding certification such as AHIMA (CCA, CCS, CCS-P) or AAPC (CPC, CPC-A, CPC-H) or relevant specialty credential.

Preferred qualifications include prior coding experience or an associate degree in a related field, knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT codes, medical billing, coding, and terminology skills.

No driver's license required.

Ability to perform essential job functions; candidates will undergo background check and pre-employment screening.
