Advanced Coding Specialist II

The Advanced Coding Specialist is responsible for day-to-day tasks related to applying appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes for data retrieval, analysis, and claims processing for all inpatient and outpatient encounters while maintaining data integrity within the medical records and other facility systems, as well as the information exchanged between Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (SMHCS) and designated practice management facilities.

Required Qualifications:

• Must have one of the following certifications by American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA): Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).
• Minimum of six (6) years of work experience as a coder, including inpatient coding experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Hospital inpatient coding experience.
• Inpatient Coding Microcredential certification.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to interact with different departments and practitioners.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, EHR software, and Encoder systems.
• Ability to perform clerical duties and repetitive, detailed tasks.
• Ability to work independently, shift priorities, and demonstrate decision-making ability.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, critical thinking, and understanding of healthcare documentation.

Education:

• High School Diploma, GED, or Certificate required.

Employment Screening Requirements:

• Background screening through The Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse is required.
