The Patient Account Specialist manages and maintains patient accounts, working under the Accounts Receivable Manager. Responsibilities include processing payments, refunds, and adjustments; identifying and correcting medical coding and billing errors; assisting patients with billing and insurance inquiries; communicating about overdue balances and collections; ensuring accurate insurance payments and follow-up on denied claims; supporting billing and collections duties; and counseling patients on insurance and billing matters including pre-certification assistance.
Preferred qualifications are 1-3 years of medical billing experience, experience working with the public in fast-paced environments, associate degree in a related field preferred, strong knowledge of insurance and managed care plans, billing and payment procedure understanding for contractual and non-contractual payers, clear communication skills, ability to follow instructions, learn quickly, and adapt to busy healthcare settings.
Physical requirements include occasional sitting, standing, walking, and rare lifting up to 15 pounds.
