The outpatient coder position involves accurately abstracting information from patient records to assign appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes according to ICD-10 and CPT guidelines. The coder maintains quality and productivity standards and participates in continuous learning via coding webinars and audit sessions.
The role requires adherence to ethical coding standards set by the American Health Information Management Association. The position is non-exempt and scheduled Monday through Friday during day shift hours.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- Completion of medical terminology course and/or anatomy and physiology preferred
- Must obtain or hold one of the following certifications within one year of hire: CCA or CCS (American Health Information Management Association), CPC-A or CPC (American Academy of Professional Coders)
- Outpatient coding experience preferred
- One year experience with Windows required
- Proficient in ICD-10 CM, CPT-4, and HCPCS coding assignments required
- Experience with EPIC Electronic Health Record and 3m 360 Computer Assistant Coding System preferred
