Inpatient Health Information Coder III

UCI Health includes UCI Medical Center, a 459-bed acute care hospital, community hospitals and ambulatory care centers in Orange and Los Angeles counties. The medical center is nationally recognized, offering specialized trauma, burn, cancer and perinatal care.

The Coder III, reporting to the Manager of Coding, performs abstracting and coding on all inpatient visits at UCI Medical Center, applying ICD-10-CM and PCS codes for data retrieval, analysis, and claims processing. Coding utilizes 3m360 Sulventum encoder and EPIC systems. Participation in departmental process improvement projects is expected.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum four years of acute hospital inpatient coding experience, including trauma level 1, burn center, and teaching facility experience
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, medical terminology
  • Proficiency in ICD-10-CM and PCS coding
  • Credentialed as CCS (Certified Coding Specialist)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and maintain appropriate work pace
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CCS credential by AHIMA
