The Inpatient Coding Specialist is responsible for reviewing and analyzing documentation present in the medical record for inpatient, outpatient and/or professional services to assign diagnosis and procedure codes based on physician documentation. This role adheres to the ethical coding standards set by the American Health Information Management Association as well as official coding guidelines.
Position requires prior ICD-10-CM and HCPCS/CPT coding experience within acute care inpatient, outpatient hospital, or professional services settings. Candidates should have or obtain certifications such as RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC or CIRCC within six months of employment. Experience with the 3M encoder and Epic system is preferred, along with educational backgrounds like an A.S. in Health Information Technology or a B.S. in Health Information Management.

- High school diploma required.
- Prior coding experience in ICD-10-CM diagnoses/procedure coding and HCPCS/CPT coding in acute care inpatient, outpatient hospital, or professional services settings.
- Certification required within six months of employment: RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC, or CIRCC.
- Working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT/HCPCS coding systems.
- Preferred: Associate degree from an accredited Health Information Technology program or Bachelor of Science from an accredited Health Information Management program.
