Senior Professional Coder

Capital Health, a leading regional healthcare organization accredited by the DNV, is seeking a Senior Professional Coder to perform complex CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM coding for physician professional claims related to hospital and outpatient procedures. This role supports documentation improvement, resolves complex billing issues, conducts staff coding reviews, and mentors coding staff. Responsibilities include reviewing procedure documentation for accurate code assignment (ICD-10-CM, CPT-4 codes and modifiers), ensuring appropriate coding of evaluation and management (E&M) services, managing workflow tasks, collaborating with providers on coding requirements, and supporting coding tool enhancements and system upgrades.

The position works 40 hours per week, remotely, only considering candidates located in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, or Alabama.

Minimum qualifications include high school diploma or equivalent, and certification such as CPC-A, CPC, or CCS-P. Three years of physician coding experience, including surgical coding, is required. Proficiency with multiple EMR systems, Microsoft Office applications, and strong knowledge of anatomy, pathophysiology, and medical terminology are essential.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Professional Coder-Apprentice (CPC-A), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Coding Specialist-Physician (CCS-P) certification required
  • Associate's degree in health information management preferred
  • Minimum three years' experience in physician coding with surgical coding experience
  • Strong knowledge of surgical coding guidelines, pathophysiology, disease processes
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and multiple EMR systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to mentor and train other staff
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently
