Account Representative

New Mexico Orthopaedic Associates P C

Responsible for collections of outstanding accounts receivable, resolving customer billing problems and reducing accounts receivable delinquency.

Review all assigned outstanding charges in AR and maintain aged receivables within established benchmarks. Perform insurance claim follow-up through completion and identify delinquent accounts. Possess thorough working knowledge of both paper and electronic billing processes. Handle correspondence related to insurance or patient accounts, contacting insurance carriers, patients and other facilities as needed to get maximum payment on accounts. Review Explanation of Benefits and file claim appeals as needed. Assist with patient inquiries regarding account and payment arrangements. Meet all expectations and deadlines for month end closing. Participate in educational and professional development activities. Attend staff meetings and others as required. Adhere to company policies including HIPAA guidelines and maintain strict confidentiality. Regular and reliable attendance is required. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications

Knowledge of current basic medical terminology. Knowledge of current coding, billing, and payment posting policies and procedures. Typing speed of 35 wpm and 10-key by touch. Proficient in MS Word, Excel & Outlook. Ability to perform basic math calculations. Proficient English reading, writing, and speaking skills; bilingual Spanish a plus. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, co-workers, patients and vendors. Professional demeanor and appearance. Ability to prioritize assignments, manage multiple projects, and follow through to completion. Accuracy, patience, and timeliness. Flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends. Associate degree preferred; minimum one-year insurance experience in medical billing or accounts receivable; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
