Laboratory Support Specialist / Administrative Coordinator

We are a CLIA-certified and COLA-accredited clinical laboratory seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Laboratory Support Specialist / Administrative Coordinator to support daily laboratory operations. This role combines laboratory support functions with administrative and logistical responsibilities, including daily specimen pickup, accessioning support, data entry, inventory coordination, and general operational assistance.

Key responsibilities include performing daily pickup of patient specimens from designated USPS mailbox/PO Box locations and transporting specimens to the laboratory; receiving, sorting, accessioning, and processing incoming specimen packages; verifying specimens meet laboratory acceptance criteria and documenting non-testable specimens; entering and verifying specimen information within laboratory systems and databases; assisting with administrative tasks including data entry, tracking logs, inventory documentation, and operational reporting; receiving and logging laboratory supply deliveries; supporting laboratory workflow coordination and communication between departments; assisting with manual result entry and verification as needed; maintaining accurate records and adhering to all laboratory quality and compliance procedures; notifying laboratory leadership of any procedural deviations or specimen concerns; and supporting additional laboratory and administrative projects as assigned.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or prior healthcare/laboratory experience preferred; strong organizational and administrative skills; comfortable working with data entry systems and laboratory software; ability to manage daily specimen transport and maintain chain-of-custody procedures; valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required; strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment; previous laboratory, medical office, logistics, or specimen handling experience preferred.

Compensation & reimbursement: hourly, non-exempt position; mileage reimbursement provided for daily specimen pickup and transportation responsibilities; potential for overtime based on operational needs.

Work environment involves combination of laboratory, administrative office, and local travel responsibilities; may require standing, lifting packages/supplies, and handling biological specimens using proper safety procedures.

Employees in this role are expected to complete ongoing training and annual continuing education in accordance with laboratory policy and regulatory requirements.
