Patient Safety Specialist

R&K supports the Defense Health Agency (DHA) in managing the Air Force Patient Safety Program dedicated to providing safe, effective, evidence-based healthcare. The Patient Safety Specialist role involves planning, developing, implementing, and coordinating facility-based patient safety programs aligned with DHA strategic healthcare safety and reliability objectives.

Key duties include serving as a patient safety subject matter expert, developing annual program reports, collaborating on event prevention and risk management, analyzing patient safety events, supporting process improvements, delivering comprehensive patient safety education, conducting refresher training, supporting failure mode and effects analyses, ensuring compliance with The Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals, and providing monthly executive reporting.

Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in nursing or healthcare-related field, a minimum of four years' healthcare experience (military inpatient facility experience preferred), proficiency in Microsoft Office, strong organizational and communication skills, experience with healthcare accreditation patient safety aspects, and familiarity with analytical methods such as Lean Six Sigma.

Additional skills include collaboration with risk and quality managers, basic data analytic skills (Microsoft Access, SQL), and the ability to communicate patient safety concepts effectively. The role is full-time, permanent, and requires Tier 1 (NACI) clearance.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or healthcare-related field
  • Minimum 4 years of healthcare-related experience; military inpatient facility experience highly desired
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and pay attention to detail
  • Experience with patient safety aspects of healthcare accreditation or willingness to become familiar
  • Experience performing Comprehensive Systematic Analysis (CSAs) and Proactive Risk Assessment (PRAs)
  • Proficiency in Lean Six Sigma and commercial quality/performance improvement practices
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, public speaking, interpersonal skills
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Access, Visual Basic, SQL, data analysis for roles involving data analytics
  • Ability to collaborate with Risk Manager and Quality Manager
