Behavioral Health Safety Specialist

The Behavioral Health Safety Specialist is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe environment for patients, families, and staff on the Behavioral Health Unit. Responsibilities include continuous safety rounding in patient care areas, assisting clinical staff with interventions for patients exhibiting escalated or aggressive behaviors, and applying evidence-based de-escalation and aggression management techniques.

Additional duties include:

  • Serving as a safety expert adhering to established safety policies and standards of care
  • Identifying and communicating any patient or family dynamics that could result in unsafe environments
  • Developing supportive relationships with patients according to treatment plans
  • Responding to staff requests for assistance and demonstrating expertise in de-escalation
  • Assisting with physical restraint techniques as necessary following proper protocols
  • Initiating debriefing sessions and providing feedback after critical incidents
  • Partnering with Public Safety and Safety Technicians to monitor safety
  • Assessing changes in patient behaviors and aiding early intervention
  • Documenting safety encounters in medical records

This is a full-time, onsite position working the 3rd shift from 7pm to 7:30am Monday through Friday, with rotating weekends and holidays.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with minimum 3 years relevant experience working with children and adolescents in behavioral health settings, OR High School diploma with 8 years relevant experience
  • Training in de-escalation and aggression management in healthcare settings required or completion of ACH course within 6 months of hire
  • Skilled in communication during crisis situations
  • Experience with evidence-based de-escalation and aggression management techniques
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development and psychopathology
  • Experience with electronic medical records (e.g., EPIC) preferred
  • Experience in project management and managing multiple projects
