Medical Lab Scientist II - Point of Care

Join BJC HealthCare as a Medical Lab Scientist II focusing on Point of Care testing. This full-time position based in St. Louis, Missouri, involves operating and maintaining Point of Care testing equipment, ensuring accurate documentation and quality control in compliance with CAP and The Joint Commission. You'll manage equipment, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate training and competency assessments for staff, while acting as a liaison between the lab and clinical personnel such as nurses. Support is also provided for on-site inspections and audits.

Work schedule is Monday through Friday, hours from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM or 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Physical, Life Science, or related fields with less than 2 years experience; certification (ASCP, AMT, AAB or equivalent/eligible) is required. You'll perform specimen processing and routine/complex testing, maintain proper documentation, and participate in quality improvement initiatives. Training of new personnel and troubleshooting are also key responsibilities.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Physical, Life Science, or related field
  • Less than 2 years of relevant experience
  • Certification from ASCP, AMT, AAB or equivalent or eligibility for certification
  • Knowledge of quality control, instrument maintenance, procedure methodologies, and reference ranges
  • Ability to operate clinical laboratory instruments
  • Strong documentation skills and adherence to clinical laboratory practices
  • Ability to train new laboratory personnel
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to work Monday to Friday, standard daytime hours
