Medical Coding Educator

Become part of a caring community as a Medical Coding Educator responsible for identifying opportunities to improve provider documentation and creating tailored education plans for assigned providers. This role reports to the Manager, Medicare Risk Adjustment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Arrange educational sessions with assigned providers focused on quality of care and documentation improvement.
  • Identify educational needs based on reports.
  • Prepare reports and presentations on coding quality trends, risk areas, and educational outcomes using data visualization techniques.
  • Provide onsite provider education.
  • Collaborate with other market-facing provider roles.
  • Use data analytics tools to assess coding quality, identify error patterns, and monitor compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Analyze coding audit results and related data to develop data-driven educational materials and interventions.
  • Work with teams to improve documentation, data integrity, and workflow processes.

This is a remote role with occasional travel to surrounding provider offices and Humana offices for training or meetings.

Requirements & Qualifications

Required qualifications

  • AHIMA or AAPC CPC (Certified Professional Coder) certification.
  • 3+ years of medical coding education or auditing experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Proficiency with data analytics tools such as Excel, Power BI, or similar tools.
  • Experience interpreting large data sets.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare risk adjustment, including HCC coding and CMS-HCC model version 28.
  • Experience speaking with leadership and strong webinar, public speaking, or presentation skills with healthcare providers.
  • Must live in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, or Virginia.

Preferred qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Value-based care experience.
  • Primary care experience.
  • Medicare risk adjustment knowledge.
  • CRC (Certified Risk Adjustment Coder) certification.
  • Experience working with healthcare providers.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
