ROI Medical Records Specialist

This role is responsible for processing release of information requests in a timely and efficient manner while ensuring accuracy, customer service, privacy, and compliance with HIPAA and other applicable regulations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Completing release of information requests by retrieving, scanning, and transmitting medical records according to established procedures and quality standards.
  • Date-stamping requests and highlighting pertinent data to support processing.
  • Validating requests and authorizations for release of medical information.
  • Performing quality checks to ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and proper invoicing.
  • Providing excellent customer service and addressing client concerns professionally.
  • Receiving incoming requests by mail, phone, or fax when needed.
  • Maintaining a clean, organized work area and proper storage of records and files.
  • Maintaining knowledge of state laws and fee structures.
  • Working within client/site policies and procedures, including HIPAA and other regulatory requirements.
  • Handling privileged information with confidentiality and professionalism.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of prior experience in a medical records department or similar setting preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to type 50 WPM.
  • Ability to use fax, copier, and scanning equipment.
  • Willingness to learn new equipment and processes quickly.
  • Self-motivated and able to work as a team player.
  • Proven customer service skills.
  • Ability to multitask.
