San Antonio Kidney is hiring a Medical Records Specialist to provide complete patient health information for clinical encounters with physicians.
This role works collaboratively with front and back office personnel, physicians, supervisors, financial counselors, and other ancillary services. The position focuses on maintaining accurate medical records, supporting patient communication, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA and organizational procedures.
Responsibilities
- Prepare EHR charts for assigned clinics.
- Process medical releases for Panoramic Health.
- Handle inter-office correspondence.
- Process incoming calls, faxes, and inquiries related to medical records releases.
- Answer incoming calls in assigned phone queues in a courteous, professional, and timely manner.
- Gather and document caller information thoroughly and accurately.
- Resolve caller questions whenever possible without transferring the call.
- Determine call status and handle calls according to established policy and procedure.
- Cancel or confirm patient visits as requested.
- Maintain a professional, courteous environment.
- Maintain strict patient and employee confidentiality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- Post-secondary certificate or associate degree in medical records technology.
- 2–5 years of experience in a medical practice preferred.
- Broad understanding of clinical operations, front office, insurance, and HIPAA regulations.
- Advanced computer skills with MS Office Suite, NextGen, Centricity, Medical Management, MS4, Practice Plus, Athenahealth, and similar systems.
- Strong communication skills with internal and external customers.
- Excellent planning skills with the ability to define, analyze, and resolve issues quickly and accurately.
- Ability to develop both tactical and strategic solutions to business challenges.
